Abstract

The Everett C. & Louise Stanton Johnson papers concern the personal affairs of prominent Delaware publisher and politician Everett C. Johnson (1877-1926) and his wife Louise Staton Johnson (1882-1977). In addition, the collection contains material from their Newark publishing house, the Press of Kells, which brought the Arts and Crafts Movement to the community from 1916 to 1918.

The Salmon Poetry Ltd. records supplement contains administrative files and the press's publishing files for books produced between 2000 and 2011. Founded and directed by the American-Irish poet, Jessie Lendennie, Salmon Poetry Ltd. is noted particularly for its publication of poetry and its promotion of women writers. This supplement complements the core archival records of Salmon Publishing, Ltd., which was acquired by the University of Delaware Library in 1998.

Abstract Shipley, Bringhurst, and Hargraves are the family names associated with Rockwood, a Victorian Rural Gothic Revival mansion and estate that was built in North Wilmington, Delaware, between 1851 and 1854. Abstract Pulitzer Prize-winning American poet W.D. (William De Witt) Snodgrass (1926-2009) wrote 58 letters between 1944 and 1946 to his then-fiancée Lila Jean Hank after being drafted into the United States Navy and stationed in Saipan. The letters described life on the naval base at the end of World War II and a long, anxious period of demobilization in the Pacific.
